Loch Venachar
Loch Venachar is the nearest loch to Stirling and offers some of Scotland’s most impressive scenery. Often overlooked in favour of Loch Lomond, it remains a genuine hidden gem. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities, including a spa, open-water swimming, sauna sessions, paddleboarding, sailing and dining at the Venachar Lochside Restaurant.
Where is Loch Venachar
Loch Venachar is just over an hour’s drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh. You get to travel some of the most stunning scenic roads Scotland has to offer. Whether that is up the A84 through the stunning Callander, or up the famous Duke’s Passage through Aberfoyle.
Enjoying Loch Venachar - Activities
There are a range of activities at Loch Venachar. The super healthy local people in Callander and the surrounding areas absolutely love spending there free time there.
Whether it is winter or summer, there are local groups who choose Loch Venachar for their weekly swims.
It is a revitalising way to exercise. Really challenging yourself but enjoying it with friends.
In the spring, autumn, and winter they use a wet suit and make sure to always warm up afterwards. Some choose to book a session at the sauna at Loch Venachar but many have a membership, giving them unlimited uses of it.

Sauna & Spa
On the North side of Loch Venachar there is a sauna & spa. The sauna has a stunning view of the loch and Ben Venue. For visitors to the loch who are spiritual or love relaxation, Venachar Lochside’s Spa is a must use.
There is a sauna, cold plunge, café and access to the loch via pontoon.
Venachar Lochside also have a large car park for customers, meaning you don’t have to worry about roadside spaces being filled when travelling to Loch Venachar.
Paddle Boarding
Paddle boarding is an inclusive way to enjoy the water. It allows those who can’t swim for long distances to enjoy the water for hours.
In summer, people come with their families and spend hours relaxing on the shores and going in and out. People even paddle board with their dog!
Many bring their own boards but others hire them out.
Make sure to protect yourself from the sun. It is recommended you wear protective clothing and use sun cream, reapplying regularly.
Sailing
On the south bank of Loch Venachar there is a sailing club ran by its members. They have races every Sunday where you can win the top prize of a week’s bragging rights!
If you are coming to visit, you might see them out cruising through catching the wind!
